Microplastics are essentially microscopic plastic debris and are virtually impossible to detect. In a study led by two PhD students from the University of Arizona, microplastic particles were detected in 100% of human organs sampled. One of the most common ways of microplastic consumption is through food. As the battle against plastic consumption and waste continues, many are still unaware of the alarming rate of microplastics present in our foods. As researchers and scientists continue to learn about long-term health effects, microplastics infiltrate our lives and poses serious threats to our health. This series of posters aims to educate and create a conversation around the health impacts of microplastics. It encourages the audience to question what they consume through a simple question - what’s on your plate?

APPROACH
Meats and seafood are heavily polluted with microplastics as we learned through our research. We created food models out of plastic bags as a visual metaphor of the microplastics in our foods. The simple question acts as a prompt to engage viewers to reflect and learn more about microplastics. It was important to engage the audience in a meaningful way that creates a conversation regarding the subject.
